This final scene concerns
an old man and his wife, Miyal. Miyal enters looking
for her long-lost husband. She sees a musician and describes
the ugly appearance of her husband to him. When she
exits, her husband enters looking for her. He sees the
same musician and describes the ugly appearance of his
wife. Knowing that the old man's wife has just passed
by, the musician tells the old man to call her. Miyal
calls back and the two are reunited. But Miyal finds
a pretty concubine standing beside her husband. The
three quarrel and enter into a fight. Miyal is struck
down and killed. A shaman nte for the dead wife brings
the play to an end.
The main themes of the Pongsan Mask-Drama
are satire on the apostasy of monks, mockery of the
upper class and the portrayal of a love triangle of
common people.
